I read two books over vacation. The first was recommended to me by my childhood best bud Aimee; she knows I love Jodi Picoult and music. You can imagine how happy I was to learn Jodi included a CD of music to accompany her latest story. The books starts with couple (Zoe and Max) trying to conceive. Their heartbreaking ordeal leads to life changes that allow new people to weave into this gripping storyline. The story brings up dramatic questions about loving others and how we learn to forgive.
Mrs. Culkin and Mrs. Bogert have been encouraging teachers to read books by Gary D. Schmidt, our visiting author this year. After reading background on a few of the books, the storyline of Trouble stood out most. Henry endures a crippling loss that ultimately teaches him significant lessons about himself. He has to face the truth about those he should know best, and learns to befriend others to help him heal emotional wounds. Our teenage protagonist, Henry, seeks to climb Mount Katahdin…and come on the other side stronger. I enjoyed the read and believe it would be something each of you would enjoy for different reasons. :)
Both of theses books sound really interesting. I Think that people over coming obstacles and hardships in their life is something i myself like to read about most. I think it's because that is what life is about. We all have had to over come something in our life and it is great when you can get insight on that and i think that's what books do. They are more than just paper and can give someone else hope when they can't find it in them self's. (:
ReplyDeleteYes, Megan! I love to read about triumph and redemption as well. They have a universal appeal, as we all want to believe we can overcome adversity in our lives.
ReplyDeleteThe book that appeals most to me is Sing You Home. The first thing that pops in my mnind is my cousin. Ever since she was 12 the doctors told her she would never be able to concieve. But, 6 months ago her snd her husband found out she wass pregnant..and 3 months ago she found out she was pregnant with twin boys. What a miracle. She couldnt of been happier. But on New Years Eve this year her and her husband were on their way home from his parents when they caught a patch of black ice and were in a tragic car accident. Her husband, Mike and her twin babies passed. It just shows how life can change in tghe blink of an eye and that life is a gift. Now my cousin has all these stuggles to face and she doesn't even thisnshe will over come it. I don't exactly know what happens in this book but I am very curious to find out.
ReplyDeleteTiffany,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that heartbreaking story. I can't even imagine your cousin's pain. I wonder if there is anything that is helping her to heal right now...
